Gulf Race 7
Peter and Mary onboard Last Call were race committee for October’s race. The passing cold front left lumpy seas, but they managed a smile and started/finished nine boats in the Gulf. Line honors went to Michael Braier/Shadowfax, Dave Kelley/Mar Y Sol, and Tom Kennedy/Sail Dance.
1st Annual DBC/SPYC Pass-A-Grille Run
Mother Nature sure gave us a run for our money on Sunday, Nov 4th. Rod and Cindy Collman, Margo Curry, Sandy Weiher, and Sarah Erb braved the early morning fog to start the PAG run. The fog lifted and three fleets; Spinnaker, Racer/Cruiser, and Cruising crossed the line for Pass-a-grille. Beth and George Pennington shortened the course at John’s Pass to finish the race for 10 of the 15 boats. Fixation and four others withdrew as the fog and light winds made finishing in the time limit impossible. Everyone made it safe back to home port or SPYC@PAG. SPYC had a nice awards reception for us. Skippers and crews were all smiles.
Dennis Bosi took line honors with the fastest time, Ed Preofke/Vahalla took second, and Tom Kennedy/Sail Dance took third. All the results are available at gulfracing.org.
The Pass-a-Grille run was our first inter club race and included DIYC, SPSA, SPYC, BSYC, CYC and of course our own DBC sailors.
I want to thank every sailor for an outstanding job in the fog, the prestart, and race. Your seamanship on Sunday was par excellence.
