Gulf Race #4 on May 11th
Rod Collman, Sandy and Gene Wieher hosted and RC’d our last Spring Race on board “Regard”. We had a great day of weather and racing in the Gulf. Eight Boats participated with Mike Twinning on board Vim taking line honors. Carol Elwood on Island Hopper took second away from Tom Kennedy onboard Sail Dance with a quick Jibe at the last mark. Gulf racing will resume in August. Results
Tampa Bay Race Calendar
Farlie Brinkley, Kim Beaty and Paul Auman attended SPYC annual PHRF Preliminary Calendar Meeting last Tuesday in St Pete. We successfully placed all DBC events on the calendar to include; Dunedin Cup, DYSA Green Fleet, and the PHRF “Gulf” BOTY events, without conflicts. A first in recent history for both the Suncoast and Gulf series, a big thank you goes to Beth and George Pennington for their meeting preparation. Our friends at CYC have scheduled the Clearwater Challenge for Oct 19th-20th. We (DBC) are very happy to see them return the event to a two day affair, please give them your support.
Bay Race #1 & #2 on May 31st
Our Summer Series, on it’s new night, is off and running. Race #1 went to Mar Y Sol (Kelly), followed by Fixation (Auman) and Island Life (Schomaker). Race #2 saw a photo finish between a Sunfish (Elwood) and Fixation (Auman), Carol edged out Fixation by 1 second. Island Life (Schomaker) took first followed by Sunfish (Elwood), and Amber Waves (Eldridge) in 3rd place. Fairlie, Sandy, Gene, and Paula Shur deserve a big hand for being our race committee on Friday Night. Paula Shur will be joining us this summer to work on her USSailing CRO certification. The music from Weaver Park was a wonderful indicator of where the wind was coming from. From all account ashore we gave them a good show. Results
