Ensign Mid Winters
Club member Zeke Durica organized and hosted the Ensign Midwinter 2013 on March 15th-17th. Ten Ensigns from around the country enjoyed our great backyard for three great days of racing. Rod Collman and Fairlie Brinkley donated their time, gas, and boats to host the race committee for this competitive one-design class. Captain Ron kept the sailors well feed with his now “Nationally Known” low-country boil. A big thank you to everyone that made this event a success!
Gulf Race and Cruise
On March 16th, DBC members raced and cruised down to Gulfport, FL for the clubs annual distance race. Seven race boats and five cruising boats made the weekend a big success. Thankyou’s go to Manuel and Mary Ellen Farinas for hosting us in Gulfport. We had a big table at Neptune’s for a fun post-race celebration. Michael Baier’s Shadowfax took line honors, followed by Ton Kennedy’s Sail Dance, and Dennis Bosi’s Challenger.
Crown Cars Regatta @ SPYC-PAG
Challenger and Sails Dance stayed in Gulfport to race the following weekend (March 23rd) in the SPYC Crown Cars Regatta at Pass-A-Grille. Saturday’s weather had low visibility, fog, and a good bout of wind. Challenger persevered and took 2nd place in Cruising B and a 3rd place overall. Both boats will continue up Tampa Bay for Suncoast Race Week. If you see these members, thank them for doing a great job of representing the Dunedin Boat Club!
April’s Upcoming Events
In April we finish the WFPHRF “Gulf” BOTY Series with Suncoast Race Week, April 5th thru 7th, in Tampa Bay. The three day event starts at DIYC and races to SPYC. On Saturday the racers will cross the bay to BYC. Sunday will see buoy racing in lower Tampa Bay. Both Challenger and Sails Dance are representing DBC in this year’s event. You can track the progress and results at http://henrymoore.org/scrw/index.htm or follow the “Gulf” series at gulfracing.org.
DBC’s Gulf race #3 will be on April 27th. First Warning will be at 10:55, 3/4 miles north of the clearwater spider. Regatta registration will be available on Wednesday, April 24th. Sailing Instructions will be posted on Friday, April 26th.
Also on April 27th the Day Sailors will be racing in the bay. Both of these events are great opportunities to try your hand at racing. Bring your boat or crew, plenty of opportunity is available to get on the water. Please contact either Paul Auman or Dave Kelly about joining our race programs, if interested.
Racing Survey Online
Our annual race committee survey is available
. Please take the time to fill this out! This will help us plan the events you want to participate in this coming year. In May we will join the other regional sailing clubs to put together a master calendar of events. If you participated in the WFPHRF “Gulf” series this year, or plan to in 2013-2014 it is imperative that we get your feedback early.
