October Race Update

The fall "Gulf" race series continued with race three, four and five on October 25th. A fair amount of wind and Small craft Advisory kept the fleet inside on Saturday. With winds out of the north at 15 mph, we had a great setup for three windward/leeward races. Nauti-Cat from FOMA joined us, and they worked the foredesck crew tacking that gigantic headsail upwind. Take a look at the pictures below.

  • Summer series ends on an almost rainy note.

Our last Summer Series race, August 20th, was canceled due the approach of Fey. Unfortunately, the weather does not seem favorable for a reschedule with next Wednesday night's tide being ultra low.

The summer series gave us a total of six great races in front of the clubhouse, plenty of refreshments for the hot summer, and a little ice cream to go around. Aqua Diem, One Love, and Intermission finish the summer series with a 1,2,3. But the real number is 11, our summer program had eleven different boats from three different sunfish to Bosi's Challenger pulling a dingy. Thank you Captains for getting your boats out.

On the Sailor of Year standings, we have Sarah Erb and Clem Rambeaue tied for first, as Bill Turnbill holds onto second, one point under Chad Tippin. It is still anyone's race with the upcoming fall "Gulf" series and Dunedin Cup only a few weeks away.

August 6th! Variety! Sunfish, Ensigns, Large and Small keel boats a like; raced two races with a steady northwest wind. Sunset was awesome, as was the racing. Even a couple spinnakers flew downwind. Thank you Sandy and Gene for great committe boat work minus the boat. See the exciting race pictures by Karen Auman below. Come out and join us on August 20th at 7pm, skippers and crew meetup at 6:30 if you are looking for crew or want to crew on another boat.

Spring Series raps up under Cloudy Skies.

Our last Spring Series race was called for ominous thunderstorms, lighting, and rain on June 21st. That did not stop our racers from enjoying a great morning of arm chair sailboat racing and shop talk. By unanimous consent we all agreed that we needed faster boats. Congratulations goes to Intermission (20 pts), One Love (23 pts), and Amity Two (37 pts). Sarah Erb, Chad Tippin, and Jim Shaw skippered great races this season. In our "by sailor" rankings, congrats goes to Sarah Erb and Bonnie Proefke (20 pts), Chad Tippin (23 pts), and Clem Rambeaue (28 pts). We had a total of 24 sailors and nine boats. I want to thank everyone who came out and supported the DBC racing program this season. See you this summer. Mark your calendars for Bay Racing; Wednesday nights July 9, July 23, Aug 6th, Aug 20th.

Thank You; III G's, Carpe Diem, Intermission, One Love, and Clem (R/C Boat) for another great Dunedin Boat Club race day, May 24th. Two races were held north of Dunedin Causeway. Intermission took a bullet in race 1, by edging out Carpe Diem by 18 seconds on corrected time. In race two Carpe Diem took line honors!

To encourage participation; no rating certificate is required. All boats will be issued a base rating for their make and model of sailboat as published on West Florida PHRF website. It is encouraged that all sailors have current ratings for their boats, if they wish to participate in this excellent regional program.

We will be awarding two awards for the year; "Racing Sailor of the Year" and "Race Boat of the Year". Each crewmember will be awarded the same points as their boat for competition in the "Racing Sailor of the Year".
